There are 2 words that should be said more often: ‘Thank You’. Or actually, they don’t even have to be said out loud, but showing your gratitude can make a big difference. The feeling I get inside when I know someone is grateful / thankful, is the thing that keeps me motivated, it’s a powerful feeling that we all need to feel more often.
Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denials into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.
I’m of the opinion that you should only do something without expecting anything in return. Do things because you really want to do it, do things that you love, that put your soul on fire, that you are passionate about. The person that will be grateful for that, will be ‘yourself ‘in the first place and that is where it all should start. And if down the road, you have people coming up to you and thanking you for what you do, then that will give you an enormous boost.
Gratitude drives happiness. Happiness boosts Productivity. Productivity reveals mastery. And mastery inspires the world.Robin S. Sharma
However if people expect things of you and they keep expecting things of you, then it is only normal to hope to get some gratitude back. If you don’t get anything back at all, then I guess it is time to reevaluate and see if you feel better when you help or if it drains your energy. Again never do something because you think you have to, but do something because you want to.
Gratitude, being nearly the greatest of human duties, is also nearly the most difficult.Gilbert. K. Chesterton
