This blog was a long time coming and it is finally here. In one of my previous ‘gratitude’ blogs I was talking about meeting people via social media. People who turn out to be very important to you and who make an enormous impact on your life. There is someone who I definitely want to thank from the bottom of my heart for all she has done; for her faith, motivation, support,… My mentor, Janelle! I actually believe that I met Janelle, because I basically had to meet her. Destiny in a way! As most of you know, I’m a huge huge fan of The Honest Company
. In the very beginning, as in the first days Honest was live on social media, the tweets I got were often signed with ‘js’ aka Janelle. The tweets changed into emails and that was the start of a super inspiring, motivating, honest friendship / mentorship!
There is this quote by Peter Drucker that says:
‘Leadership is lifting a person’s vision to high sights, raising a person’s performance to a higher standard, the building of a personality beyond its normal limitations.’
I believe we all need someone who motivates you to do better, to be better, to raise your standards, to challenge yourself, to leave your comfort zone,… Someone who truly believes in you and sees the potential you have, even when you don’t really believe in yourself. Besides my family and close friends, Janelle is the one who basically brings out the best in me. She gives me the push I need without telling me what to do. And that is a quality that not everyone has; motivating / helping people without telling them what to do, just guiding them.
That is exactly what I need! The funny thing is, we haven’t even met yet in real life, but she already knows me quite well and knows what I want to achieve. That said, I want to thank Janelle for everything she has done for me. Being my mentor, my friend, my inspiration… It’s been an incredible inspiring process/journey so far where I’ve learned that what I want to do is definitely worth it and that I just should go for it, believe in myself and in my potential. Thank you Janelle! I’m a very lucky person to have you in my life.
Besides saying thank you to Janelle, I also wanted to share the adventure Janelle and her family are currently on; ‘In awe of it all; 2 parents, 2 teens, 1 dog, no fixed address.’ Yes, they are on a big adventure; ‘filled with question marks and the fuzziest of futures’ as Janelle describes it. They sold their house and a big part of their belongings and are currently living on the ‘road’. This wasn’t planned years in advance which makes it even more exciting! They are going where life takes them; from point A to point B.
“The truth is, we’re not looking for anything. We have a deep desire to look at everything. To see and experience this wonderful world of ours. Thus, the name of our blog: “In Awe of it All.” Because life’s truly amazing when you break outside of routines.”
Thank you Janelle for everything!! I’m excited for you and your family on this journey. Hopefully your journey will bring you one day to Europe, so we can finally meet up! 😉
“To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.”
