Now that we have our own house, I was finally able to start gardening. For some reason it always appealed to me to have my own vegetable garden and I’ve been working on that dream with the help of my husband.

Fase 0: How the garden looked like in the beginning.

But first things first… We had to do some pretty intensive garden works; ‘differences in level’ – kind of work. Once that was done it was time to decide how I would setup the vegetable garden. Because the garden soil turned out to be quite bad I decided on 2 raised-bed vegetable gardens and a normal one. And of course some garden pots. The garden itself is not finished yet, since we still need to have grass and our terrace. It’s definitely a work in progress.

Fase 1: Level work

Fase 2: Path around our house and making sure that the soil is stabilized

Fase III: The vegetable garden

It’s looking pretty good and the vegetables are thriving, especially since the weather has been really good in May – June. Currently I’m growing a lot of different kinds of tomatoes, since I couldn’t pick 1 kind, peas, carrots, radish, lettuce, cauliflower,… Starting from next week I will give you weekly updates on ‘Felien’s Green Space’. The good things, the bad things,… So definitely stay tuned!

Odd as I am sure it will appear to some, I can think of no better form of personal involvement in the cure of the environment than that of gardening. A person who is growing a garden, if he is growing it organically, is improving a piece of the world. He is producing something to eat, which makes him somewhat independent of the grocery business, but he is also enlarging, for himself, the meaning of food and the pleasure of eating.

See you next Wednesday for a new update! 🙂
