About 2 years ago I wrote a blog about friends (you can read it here). I basically said that I don’t have many friends, but the ones that I have are truly special, one of a kind. Most of my friends are international, which makes it sometimes a bit harder. And that international friendship is something I want to highlight in this blog.
A while ago there was this HelloGiggles post about ‘Why Long Distance BFFs are Actually The Best’. In my opinion every single thing they mentioned in that post is so true. My friends that know me best, this is besides my close friends in Belgium, are from all around the world, some live on the other side of the world, others a bit closer. It’s quite impossible to take my car and go for a ride to see them. Which also means, that I don’t get to see them as much as I would like. Long distance means you have to plans trips to see each other and I think that that effort is so beautiful and extremely meaningful.
They help you see the world outside your bubble.
When it comes to getting advice from my international friends, they give me advice or feedback without any hint of judgment. They give their unbiased point of view and that is what I need. It’s pure honesty and that is what friendship is all about. I’m so fortunate to have them in my life. It isn’t always easy, it sometimes is so frustrating that you can’t talk face to face. But once I do see them, that feeling I get inside is unforgettable.
It takes work to stay close and that’s a proud accomplishment.
Nowadays making friends is not obvious. For me friendship is about trust, honesty, respect, understanding, love and fun. Trusting someone 100% is not easy. You’ll get burned once in a while, that’s a given. What I truly love about my friends is that, no matter how far away they are, they’ll always make time. They boost my confidence when needed, they care. Once you care about people, you’d do anything and you just want to make it work. Making time is the pilar of a friendship.
I know that my life would totally not be the same without them. I cherish them!
It’s funny how my most precious friendships started out because of basically 2 ladies in 2 different TV shows; Jessica Capshaw and Sasha Alexander. Because of them we got in touch, because of them we connected and continued building our ‘bond’. It’s safe to say that television shows do have the capability to change people’s life. They changed mine, by bringing these beautiful people into my life! Thank you Sasha and Jessica. So here’s to my international BFFs. I love you all and I can’t wait for more of our adventures. And to the ones I still need to meet, it will happen!
You don’t need a certain number of friends, just a number of friends you can be certain of.
