It’s been a few months since I last wrote a blog. It was my biggest writers block ever and I felt so bad not writing, but even when I grabbed paper and a pen, I wasn’t able to write at all. The only things I was able to see were all the things that didn’t go the way I wanted them to go and I doubted every single thing in my life. A quarterlife crisis. But I’m back and I’m super excited for what is to come!
For those who have been following this blog, you might have noticed that I’m a huge fan of quotes. I’m always astounded how one quote can change how you are feeling at that exact moment or how it can change how you look at life.
For this blog, I made a list of quotes said by one of my favorite TV characters, Arizona Robbins on Grey’s Anatomy; portrayed by the talented Jessica Capshaw. What I love about this character is that she is determined to keep going even after everything she’s been through. And that list is long… Sometimes it’s easy to learn from a fictional character, because of the way it’s been portrayed, lots of praise go to Jessica for this. When you are invested in a show, you care for the characters and often you ‘understand’ them.
If you are following Grey’s Anatomy, you know that Arizona is a pro in giving speeches. So it was pretty difficult to make this list not too long. The quotes I selected are in my opinion great life lessons.
‘I know about the tiny coffins, I see them all the time. In my sleep. So if you don’t mind, I’m gonna keep talking relationships and rainbows and crap. And I’m gonna make plans for tomorrow. Cause that’s what you do Karev. You make plans. You have to. You turn your back on the tiny coffins and you face forward. To the next kid.’
Sympathy for the devil – 5.12
Facing forward is sometimes a hard thing to do. Life can throw you lots of curveballs and then it’s up to you how to handle them. But making plans is, in my opinion, a must, something that gives you strength and motivation to continue.
‘He’ll say yes or he’ll say no. Then we’ll know.’
Tainted Obligation – 6.04
I often have these moments where I wonder ‘Should I or Should I not’. If I don’t ask it, I’ll never know. Some opportunities only come once, seize them. And as they say, in the end we only regret the chances we didn’t take. Dare to take risks. Leave your comfort zone!
‘I’ve had to give up things but what I’ve learned is that I don’t need much. I don’t need much to be happy.’
Throwing It All Away – 10.15
We are often consumed by our busy daily life, that we sometimes forget to enjoy the little things in life. Focus on what is important and the rest will follow.
‘You will treat people with kindness and respect. And you will start with yourself.’
Bad Blood – 9.13
Your relationship with yourself is the most important one. Accepting who you are and respecting yourself is the start of everything. If you don’t love yourself, you can’t love anyone else.
‘When something like this happens you call me and you say ‘Arizona I’m in trouble and I need help’
Everything I try to Do, Nothing Seems to Turn Out Right – 10.23
We can’t do everything by ourselves, even if we would want to. Sometimes we do need help and there is nothing wrong with that. Admitting the fact that we need help is nothing to be ashamed of. It’s human.
‘Sometimes we try to make things better and have no idea that we’re actually causing more pain.’
Get Up, Stand Up – 10.12
Sometimes you have to let go and move on. Not only for the sake of other people, but also for yourself.
‘I had to figure out how to be me.’
Throwing It All Away – 10.13
Self reflection is a good thing and it’s something we should all invest some time in. My quarterlife crisis is not over yet, but I’m processing and I’m learning more things about myself.
‘Cause I’m right and I’m awesome’.
Invasion – 6.05
We all need this sometimes. So say it out loud to yourself! Confidence is sexy!!
‘I protect the things I love’
No words needed for this.
‘You have a shot! You have a chance. And it may be small and it may be risky. But it’s a chance.’
Where Do We Go From Here – 11.09
There is always a chance to achieve something. It all depends on your devotion and motivation. Even when it gets hard and you are ready to stop, there is always a chance it might work out. It depends on what YOU want and how important it is to you.
A huge thank you goes to Jessica Capshaw. She is the one that built this character to who she is now, of course with the help and guidance of the writers and the Grey’s Anatomy team. Thank you for all your hard work, devotion and enthusiasm. And congrats on your 150 episodes, Jessica! It’s been an incredible journey so far for Arizona and I can’t wait for what is to come. As once said by Jessica, #drama #thrills! I’m ready!
