“It takes a lot of courage to show your dreams to someone else”
E. Bombeck

‘It would be a dream come true…’ or ‘it’s my dream to…’ are sentences I used countless times in the past. I actually still use them nowadays. Some people say ‘dreams are just dreams’, other people believe in dreams and have Faith.

There is a difference between the little Felien saying ‘it’s my dream to…’ or the Felien I am today.

When  I was a ‘child’ it was my dream to become a Vet and take full time care of animals. This dream didn’t come true on professional level, because I realised that when an animal is hurt I always feel the need to cry. And I don’t think a Vet should cry every time there is a wounded animal. I’m not emotionally strong enough for that type of work. However, I’m not really disappointed that that dream didn’t come true, because there are other people out there who are able to do this kind of work.

When I was in highschool I wanted to have a scientific career and have my own lab to experiment. Today, I work in a lab and I do have a scientific career. Realising that the small part of cancer research that I do will eventually help other people is amazing and I feel blessed that I can do this. This is definitely a dream come true.

Being in my twenties it’s my dream to travel as much as possible, meet lots of new and inspiring people, share my passions,… So far, I’ve travelled quite a lot in my life. It’s something I can’t miss at all. It is quite expensive but the things you see, the people you meet are definitely worth it.

So I personally do think that dreams can come true. But you do need to realise what is realistic and what isn’t.
There is nothing wrong with dreaming and I honestly do think that life would be less exciting if you didn’t have any dreams.

“If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with success unexpected in common hours.”
Henry David Thoreau
